Joe Ingles hit the first two and Donovan Mitchell added one of his own for Utah, which rallied from nine down in the final three-plus minutes of regulation to force OT.
Mitchell and Rudy Gobert each had 15 points as the Jazz picked up just their sixth road win in 25 tries this season.
Utah is 20-and-28 overall.
Andre Drummond had 30 points, 24 rebounds and six blocks for Detroit, which has lost six in-a-row to slip to 22-and-24.
The Pistons wrap up a four-game homestand against the Oklahoma City Thunder Saturday.
