The second phase of a two-year, $5.6-million face-lift for Ouellette Ave. between Wyandotte St. and Elliot St. is ready to roll Monday morning.
When complete the project will reduce the number of lanes from four to two, raise a new median island, sidewalks, landscaping and additional on-street parking.
The city of Windsor's Adam Coates tells AM800 News the project will run until October 2018.
"Last year the underground work in the intersection of Wyandotte St. and Ouellette Ave. was completed and this year it's going to be the surface treatment," he says. "All the way from Wyandotte St. to Elliot St. and it's going to be a complete reconstruction of the surface elements from building-face to building-face."
Traffic will be able to move through the site, he added.
"There will be a northbound lane of traffic that will still be open, and that is anticipated to be open for the entire duration of the construction," says Coates."The city of Windsor, with the consultants, worked closely with the BIA and the business owners directly to try and phase the project so that it would have as minimal an impact as we possibly could."
Coates says Transit Windsor will follow the same re-routing plan as it did during the first closure.
