Phase 2 of work to improve a section of Lauzon Parkway in Windsor is moving ahead after being paused in mid-2022.
City Council voted during its April 11 meeting to approve the tender from Piera Con Enterprises Inc. to handle the nearly $5.5-million project.
Phase 2 of the road rehabilitation will see the reconstruction of the northbound and southbound lanes of Lauzon Parkway from Cantelon Drive to Forest Glade Drive. The work also includes street lighting and traffic infrastructure replacement.
All businesses will remain open during construction, but lanes will be reduced in both directions. Construction on Phase 2 is expected to begin as soon as possible and should wrap up by the end of 2023.
Chris Nepszy, Commissioner of Infrastructure Services, says these are much needed improvements.
"With any construction, we appreciate the patience. We know there is going to be detours and the construction signs out there, but it is for the improvement of the roadways and the improvement of the infrastructure," he says.

In August of 2022, the city decided to delay the start of the work due to the availability of materials and a need to first complete upgrades to Huron Church Road.
Phase 1 of the construction saw $8.1-million invested to fully rebuild the north and southbound lanes of Lauzon Parkway from Tecumseh Road East to Hawthorne Drive.
Nepszy says they're looking forward to continuing the next segment.
"There's one additional segment left that requires quite a bit of extensive underground storm sewer work, that section is destined to be done in the next couple of years," he says.
The final phase of the project, expected to include work on the stretch of Lauzon Parkway from the E. C. Row Expressway to County Road 42, should be completed in the next few years.
According to the city's website, about 30,000 vehicles, including heavy trucks, travel daily on Lauzon Parkway to or from the E.C. Row Expressway.
