It was scheduled to arrive Friday morning

A slight delay in the arrival of an important diagnostic machine for cancer in Windsor.

The PET/CT scanner was set to arrive Friday morning, but due to customs issues at the border, the machine will arrive and be installed Saturday morning, next to the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre.

It will take place from 8am to noon and traffic behind Windsor Regional Hospital's Met Campus on Alsace Ave. may be impacted.

It will arrive on a 53 ft. trailer.

The diagnostic machine will prevent hundreds of local patients from having to drive up the 401 to Mississauga, London or Hamilton to get a scan, which is primarily used for cancer diagnoses.

The first patient will be seen in mid-May and it should be fully up and running by the end of next month.

The Ministry of Health is picking up the entire cost of the $3.5-million scanner.
