It's been one year since the murder of Gerardine Butterfield.
She was killed in her Wellington Ave. apartment unit last May.
Windsor police continue to investigate and say the Major Crimes Branch has identified a person of interest.
Constable Tayla Natyshak says Butterfield lived a very quiet lifestyle.
"She lived alone in her apartment and allowed a very few immediate family members to visit her," says Natyshak. "As such, we do not believe she would have let anyone else inside her apartment building or even really spoken to or gone out with anyone else."
Natyshak says it's believed Butterfield was killed several days prior to being located.
"No charges have been laid however we are releasing that we do have a person of interest who has been identified by investigators," she says. "This is a very positive step forward in the investigation."
Natyshak says anyone seen with Butterfield, attempting to contact her at her apartment or leaving her apartment around the time of the homicide, outside of regular family visitors, would be considered suspicious.
Butterfield was 63-years-old when she was killed.
She was the first homicide of 2019.
Anyone with information is asked to call Windsor police or Crime Stoppers.
