Just in time for the start of school.
The province is increasing the penalties for drivers who disobey crosswalks and pedestrian crossovers.
Failing to yield at a pedestrian crosswalk will result in fines of up to $1,000 and four demerit points after September 1.
It is currently $500 and three demerit points.
As well, drivers who are convicted of careless driving causing bodily harm or death will face fines ranging from $2,000 and up to $50,000, six demerit points, a maximum of two years in jail and a driver's licence suspension of up to five-years.
