There will be a leadership change on Pelee Island come this fall.
Current mayor Rick Masse has announced he will not seek re-election in October's municipal election.
Masse has been mayor for three terms and says making the decision to step away was not easy.
"I need to take care of some family members and I want to go do some other things," says Masse. "I had a great time doing it. I'm very appreciative of my community's support and all the things that we did get accomplished while I was mayor and I'm content that we were fairly successful."
Masse believes there were many accomplishments during his tenure but one sticks out.
"I guess the new vessel coming would probably be a primary one because that one there is going to solidify our highway to the island probably for the next 50 years," he says. "So I think that's probably the greatest accomplishment that we made in the last 12 years."
Masse says one remaining project he wants to tackle before his term ends is shoreline protection for the island.
As of now, there are no candidates seeking the mayor's seat.
