There's more fallout from high water levels on Lake Erie.
Most of the beaches on Pelee Island are under water and wave action is causing serious erosion.
Mayor Rick Masse told AM800's 'The Afternoon News' that even roads are being threatened. "The armour stone is rolling into the lake and leaving the, in some areas, it's not a huge issue right now. But there's some areas where it's exposed and a couple of really good storms, it keeps eating away and getting closer to the roadways."
"Any place where you need beach access is pretty much off limits," says Masse. "Access to the lighthouse is very restricted, the beach access is pretty well gone because the water level's so high. So people are making their own way and their own trails up to the lighthouse, the ones that are daring."
Masse Sunset Beach north of the ferry terminal has been closed because of damage to the stairs and deck.
Despite the situation, Masse says high water issues won't hurt the tourism season. "I'm anticipating a really good season. The lake is beautiful, the water is nice and clean, and you can still access it, but laying in the sand might be difficult."
