Woman critically injured in overnight crash on Ouellette Avenue

A woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle overnight.

Emergency crews responded around 2:30 a.m. Sunday to the 1100 block of Ouellette Avenue, just south of Pine Street.

Police say a 40-year-old woman was crossing the street mid-block when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Following the collision, the driver exited his vehicle and was reportedly assaulted by a man who had been accompanying the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition. The driver was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Ouellette was closed in both directions between Giles Boulevard and Pine while the Traffic Reconstruction Unit conducted their investigation but has since reopened.
