Windsor's ferry service to Peche Island is getting rave reviews.
Coordinator for Community Support Services, Tress MacNeill says the response from the public has been overwhelming.
Since the Canada Day weekend, more than 1,400 people have taken advantage of the new ferry to Peche Island.
"It's such a beautiful, pristine island and for those that have never had an opportunity to get there, be to able to offer this opportunity to them, we knew there would be a high demand," says MacNeill. "I don't know that we expected it to be so successful."

The city acquired the island from the province in 1999 and set aside $1-million to be used for the purchase of a small boat, shoreline rehabilitation, dirt pathways and signage.
"When we were first starting this, I had a gentleman say to me, "I'm over 80 years old. I've lived in Windsor my entire life and I'm finally getting an opportunity to go to an island I've never been able to do." So those are the kinds of people that are showing up. People that have lived here their entire lives, but have never had an opportunity to get to the island," she says.
The ferry service to the island will run on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday until October 3.
The cost is $5 per person and people are encouraged to pre-register by calling Lakeview Marina.
