Another retail casualty.
Payless ShoeSource has announced it is closing all 2,500 of its North American stores this spring.
The closures are due to a prior reorganization that left the company 'ill-equipped' for today's retail environment with too much debt.
It employs 2,400 workers in Canada at 248 stores including three stores in Windsor.
Windsor Shopper Connie Fluet shops at the Dougall store.
"I heard it as I just came in and I'm kinda disappointed because I get a few things here," says Fluet. "Purses and shoes and sorry for her [employee] and the other workers who will be out of work."
Despite a shift to more online shopping, Fluet says so far, she has avoided it especially for shoes.
"I don't really want to do that, I like to try them on and walk out with them, as oppose to wait and see and send it back, I have never bought online."
Staff at the Dougall store could not comment saying everything had to go through the company.
