A revised by-law cements bans on smoking and recreational drone use along with a new curfew for Windsor parks.
However, city council is sending its parks staff back to the drawing board to work with local metal detecting enthusiasts after rejecting a portion of the by-law that would have scrapped a permitting system that allowed treasure hunters to roam parks with their gear.
Parks, Recreation and Culture Leader Jan Wilson says they've seen dug up holes and other damage believed to be tied to metal detector hobbyists.
"We've experienced some challenges in damage to parks," she says.
According to Wilson, administration will sit down with the group the represents the enthusiasts but, if a solution can't be reached, she'll be back before council looking for direction.
"The standing committee felt that it would be worthwhile to work with the organization and workout perhaps a revised permit process that may address some of the issues that we're having in parks."
Council approved the new revised parks by-law which was last updated in 2002 — save for the portion on metal detectors.
