A flurry of parking tickets issued at a vigil in west Windsor was likely complaint driven according to the city's parking compliance and enforcement supervisor.
Following the vigil Tuesday night to remember the 50 victims who died in a terrorist attack in New Zealand, more than a dozen vehicles parked on Patricia Rd, between Riverside Dr. and University Ave. were ticketed for parking illegally.
The ticket is about $35.
"There are people who do live in this area and do have to get in and out of their houses," says Parking Compliance and Enforcement Supervisor Bill Kralovensky. "I understand that it was a vigil and it was needed to pay their respects, but all you have to do is look up at a sign."
He says there is an option to dispute the ticket and organizers of events can fill out permits to have parking enforcement relaxed.
One driver who received a parking ticket accused the city of a hate crime, but Kralovensky says it's water off a duck's back.
"We get accused of things like that every day around here, death threats, wishing our families bad, my staff and myself we have pretty thick skin now and they now just roll off of us so we understand where this gentleman was coming from and no harm no foul from us towards him as well."
There are no parking signs on Patricia Road.
There is also a sign stating parking is restricted to vehicles with a residential parking permit.
