Expect to pay more in the new year if your parking meter expires in Windsor.
If approved in the 2017 budget, there will be an increase in the penalty from the current $17 up to $20 for parking meters and parking lots.
"When we give a ticket for the parking violation, all that money goes into running that operation," says Executive Director of Operations Dwayne Dawson. "There are no funds set aside or any money going for maintenance. So that $3 increase will go into the maintenance of that parking spot."
There is also a recommendation to increase monthly parking passes by $5 per month and group discounts in parking lots and garages would also be eliminated.
Dawson says the last increase in monthly parking passes happened back in 2013.
If approved, the increases would result in an extra $200,000 in revenue for the city.
Budget deliberations are set for January 23rd.
