At least one trustee with the Greater Essex County District School Board is hearing from parents who are overwhelmed with remote online learning.
Schools were shutdown in mid-March, due to COVID-19 and since then, parents have been directed to try and teach from home via online learning.
But trustee Aimee Omstead says she has received a lot of phone calls and emails from parents and guardians who are at the breaking point.
"Many are just really overwhelmed," saus Omstead. "They are asking for help, asking for clarification, how to teach their kids, they are asking for resources and some want someone to listen to them, they want their concerns aired and they want someone to know they are overwhelmed."
She says many are stressed with the current situation, job losses, working from home and they don't have the energy to seek out the resources on the board's website.
Omstead points out the board has a lot of amazing resources on its website, but if parents don't know about them, it isn't serving its purpose.
"Resources not only to help guide parents and guardians to assist them in their teaching, but also their resources to address the mental health and well-being, that's a big issue I'm hearing from parents," she says
She adds parents aren't really worried about the curriculum persay, but rather navigating the technology and dealing with the stress of the situation.
Omstead says students have access to their teachers and principals via an edsby account but some parents are so overwhelmed, they didn't know how to do it.
She says for some parents who are working from home, they are using the computer all day, so their child doesn't have access to the computer.
The province has not set a date for students to return to class.
