A rally is being planned in downtown Windsor to protest the ongoing violence in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian Solidarity Group is a student-led initiative out of the University of Windsor that aims to support and promote the basic rights of Palestinians in the occupied territories.
In a release the group says they condemn "in the strongest terms possible, the recent indiscriminate bombing on the captive civilian population of Gaza."
"We are in solidarity with the Palestinian people and we call for an end to the illegal settler-colonial occupation of Palestine," said the group.
"Cutting off water, electricity, gas, and preventing food and emergency supplies from reaching the already besieged Gazans amounts to nothing less than a war crime."
The group is calling for the community to come together in a peaceful protest Thursday at 6 p.m. at the corner of Riverside Dr E and Ouellette Avenue.
This past Saturday, Hamas militants launched a surprise attack on Israel, since then the two sides have ramped up attacks on each other, leaving thousands dead.
On Tuesday evening, The Windsor Jewish Federation organized a solidarity and prayer session at the Temple Beth El.
