The Windsor-built 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is adding another award to its trophy cabinet.
The minivan has been named the winner in the full-vehicle category for the fifth annual Altair Enlighten Awards for innovation in automotive lightweighting.
The Pacifica is being recognized for being 250 lbs (113 kg) lighter than the outgoing model it replaces. Engineers achieved the weight by blending high-strength steels with aluminum and magnesium.
A lighter vehicle is a key contributor to better fuel economy and also improves the vehicle's safety in a crash.
The Chrysler Pacifica and Pacific Hybrid have grabbed more than 50 awards including the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year.
