The owners of a new motel in Colchester are hoping to have it open by mid-to-late June.
Work officially began on the Grove Motel in May of 2022 with the goal of opening in the spring of 2023, but construction delays have pushed the opening until later next month.
Co-owner Jennifer Flynn says everything is going slower than they hoped but they want to make sure the rooms are perfect to welcome the guests.
"As constructions goes, that should have been slightly expected," she says. "We're ready and set to be opening, hopefully in the next 30 to 45 days would be our goal."
The retro-theme site will be a two storey, 27-room motel located at 96 County Rd. 50 W., right at the intersection with Dunn Road. Each of the rooms will have an unique, indvidual look.
The over $5.5-million project will be built by the owners of the Grove Hotel in Kingsville.
Flynn says they've been getting almost daily inquires about the motel.
"I really think it's going to be a success just from the stand point that it will bring people to that area, where there are no accommodations offered right now. The wineries with groups and weddings, even that kind of idea, those people really don't have anywhere to stay. They're travelling back to Windsor or various locations like that," she says.
Around 25 to 30 people are expected to be employed at the new motel once it is fully operational.
A Joe Hot and Cold is also being added at the motel, offering coffee, breakfast and lunch items, and alcoholic beverages.
