A town councillor in Essex is calling for a change in the way some infrastructure projects are awarded.
Larry Snively says he's been getting complaints about non-tendered work going to companies outside of Essex. "We do have people here that do the same type of work and they're paying taxes into the corporation and I think they should get the work. Plain and simple, I don't think we should be outsourcing work when we have people here in this municipality that can do the work."
"We have different companies here, smaller companies, that do drainage work and culverts and I'm not going to point a finger at anybody. I just want to correct the problem" says Snively. "Make sure that all the work is given to our people first here."
He's calling for a formal policy that prevents the outsourcing of work when qualified people are available locally.
