OPP across the province will be implementing a strategy to help combat human trafficking and to support the victims of the crime.
Detachment Commander for Essex OPP, Glen Miller, says he is not able to give specific details on the strategy yet. However, Miller says if you are a victim of human trafficking, he has a message for you.
"Have confidence in the police," says Miller. "I want you to have confidence in our judicial system. Most important I want you to have confidence in the community because we do have things in place that believe it or not we can retrieve you out of the lifestyle that you are currently doing and allow you to return to the type of lifestyle that you would want for yourself."
Miller says Essex OPP are asking residents to speak up if they believe they know a victim of human trafficking.
"I think people do see things and I think the community is extremely smart and the community, if they know that we are interested in this, generally the community much like the media responds in a very positive way and I am very appreciative of that," says Miller.
