The OPP are going to do a debrief on the handling of the first major crash and fatality on the Herb Gray Parkway.
One person died in the multi-vehicle collision on the roadway near Todd Lane yesterday afternoon.
Traffic was tied up for several hours as the crash involving 3 transports and an SUV was investigated.
Western Region Sergeant Dave Rektor says managing the traffic is a key piece of what they do in these cases: "once traffic is safely diverted, we work on the end of cue by reversing them down the highway safely to an exit ramp where they can then get back into the regular flow of traffic but this is something the OPP has a lot of experience in"
Sergeant Dave Rektor says people need to recognize these kinds of crashes are time consuming and they need to have patience.
He points out the investigators need to be diligent in fatal crashes to gather precise and exact evidence, especially if something will work its way down the road to the court system.
Sergeant Rektor says in every crash of this seriousness there is a followup debriefing session at the detachment level to see if there could be changes or improvements to how the incident was handled.
