Drivers in Leamington are being put on notice over certain driving habits through one intersection in the town.

Ontario Provincial Police officers in Leamington will continue targeted enforcement and public education at the intersection of Danforth Avenue and Carolina Woods Crescent.

The problem revolves around a number of motorists failing to comply with traffic laws at this intersection, which is designated as a three-way stop. The behaviours include failing to come to a complete stop.

OPP say the behaviours remain among the leading contributing factors in intersection-related collisions.

Constable Stephanie Caron says some people do get lax when driving but you have to come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

“Some people roll through or slow down. I used to often get that comment, ‘Oh, I’m really sorry.’ “Sorry” doesn’t cut it; that’s not what the sign says. That’s not what that red and white sign says, it says stop. You have to obey all traffic signals," she says,

OPP say intersections continue to be the highest-risk environments on Ontario roadways.

The OPP is reminding all motorists that safe and attentive driving is essential at every intersection, every time.

Drivers are reminded and urged to:

Come to a complete stop at stop signs.

Obey all traffic signals.

Yield the right-of-way when required.

Remain alert and focused at all times.
