With opioid overdose deaths on the rise, provincial police want everyone to know about the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act.
It provides protection against charges against those who call 9-1-1 to get help for someone suffering an overdose.
That includes charges for drug possession for personal use, violating parole, bail or probation conditions along with a conditional sentence for a simple drug possession charge.
But it does not provide protection against charges for trafficking illegal drugs, offences other than drug possession, outstanding arrest warrants or violating conditions of parole, bail or probation for an offence that does not involve simple possession.
The OPP has launched a province wide campaign to promote the act.
