A shocking new report on opioid use in Windsor-Essex.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit document shows the 2015 rate of opioid-related deaths in Windsor and Essex County was two times greater than the provincial rate and increased nearly 190% over an eight-year span.
The report says there were 382 opioid-related visits to emergency departments, with 43 people dying.
Men aged 20-44 made up nearly half of the patients.
The report says opioids were given to nearly 28,000 people in Windsor-Essex through the Ontario Drug Benefit in 2015.
