Changes are on the way for University and Victoria Ave. and the City of Windsor had them on display at the Windsor International Aquatic Centre.
The city laid out several options to improve right-of-ways and streetscaping for a section of University from McDougal St. to Huron Church Rd. and a stretch of Victoria Ave. from Chatham St. W. to Park St. W.
Plenty of residents made their way through the information session, including retired Windsor Public Library employee Mark Bradley.
Bradley has lived at the corner of Victoria Ave. and Park St. W. for more than 30-years and wants to see an option to turn the entire stretch of Victoria Ave. into a single lane for one-way traffic.
"Called a flex-zone with only one southbound-from University Ave., the rest is turned into a flexible space for greenspace, bicycles and sidewalks," he says. "I like that idea."
He's also spent more than 20-years walking to and from the University of Windsor via University Ave.
"I'd like more benches, more seating, definitely would like to see more shade," says Bradley. "That's a brutal street in the summertime to walk."
Bradley says, sadly, he's seen more buildings torn down than built-up on University Ave. W. over the years.
He's certain a change could turn things around.
"University Ave. can be developed really well with retail, office space, condos, apartments or whatever," he says. "I mean it's a money street if they want to develop it."
City Manager of Transportation Planning Josette Eugeni tells AM800 News anyone who missed the public information session can still view plans online and comment.
Around 20 people currently giving feedback on proposed upgrades to University Ave. and Victoria Ave. at the Windsor International Aquatic Centre. The session ends at 8pm but @CityWindsorON officials say residents can continue to comment on the city’s website. #cklw pic.twitter.com/u72cU3rLkV
