The province is aligning the definition of disability with the feds as part of a social assistance overhaul.
That's according to Social Services Minister Lisa MacLeod, who says those currently receiving disability support from the province will be grandfathered-in but would not say whether fewer would be able to qualify in the future.
The Progressive Conservative did say the realignment will allow people receiving aid to keep more of the money they earn before their support is reduced.
Opposition critics say the threshold to qualify for disability benefits under the Canada Pension Plan is higher than it is for the Ontario Disability Support Program— if the PC government really wants to help people it should reinstate the scrapped minimum wage hike to $15/hr and proposed basic income pilot project.
