It was a multi-purpose stop in Detroit for Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne on Friday.
Wynne and Michigan Governor Rick Snyder signed a memorandum of understanding to extend the good working relationship between the two governments when it comes to innovation in the auto sector, tourism and the Great Lakes.
Ontario and Michigan are each other's largest trading partners and share the busiest Canada-U.S border crossing. Wynne says there is already a good working relationship between the pair.
"Today's Memorandum of Understanding is an extension of that and a demonstration of how important it is that the provinces and states work together and that we find solutions for our shared problems," she says.
The Ontario election is set for June 7 and the riding of Essex doesn't have a Liberal candidate — Wynne says that will change soon.
"You will find if you look back at previous elections there are candidates sometimes who aren't nominated by all parties until after the writ is dropped, that is not unusual, we will work to have everybody in place as soon as the writ drops," says Wynne. "There will be a candidate in all 124-ridings in Ontario, stay tuned in the next few days we will be making those decisions."
The memorandum will also encourage Ontario and Michigan to work together to create more jobs and stimulate economic growth.
While in Michigan, Premier Wynne also visited the FIRST Robotics Competition at Cobo Centre in Detroit.
