The Ontario PC party is promising to address the needs of farmers and rural Ontario.
Speaking at a farm in Woodslee, leader Doug Ford promised to increase the Risk Management Program, which is an agricultural insurance program, to $150-million to help farmers deal with the risks that are out of their control, like the weather.
"The days of being ignored will soon be over," promised Ford. "The days of being taken for granted will soon be over, change is coming and help is on the way."
He says the increase to the program will mean more stability, more income security and more peace of mind for farmers.
"As I visit these communities, I can see our farmers are struggling. The politicians at Queen's Park have done nothing for our farmers in our rural communities," he says.
Ford will also expand natural gas, broadband and cellular services to rural Ontario.
He also plans to have a farmer as the Ministry of Agriculture.
From the farm in Woodslee, Ford attended a meet and greet at Colasantis.
Essex farmer Terry Byrne attended Ford's announcement and liked what he heard.
"The Risk Management Program is very timely because if you look around the fields out here, these fields are barren and they should be planted right now," he says referring to the rainfall amounts this spring.
He's the first political leader to visit the area since the election was called.
