The MPP for Windsor-Tecumseh is getting some support for his private member's bill to try and re-open the Canadian Club Centre.
Ontario Minister of Economic Development and Growth Brad Duguid was at the Canadian Club Centre in Windsor Monday night for a reception for the Great Lakes Economic Forum taking place in Detroit.
The centre on Riverside Dr. closed at the end of March and MPP Percy Hatfield has introduced a private member's bill to amend the Liquor Control Act to allow brand owners to sell spirits that are produced for them in Ontario.
The Canadian Club Centre was unable to sell its whisky at the historic brand centre.
Duguid says he's happy to advocate on Hatfield's behalf within government. "I'm very sympathic to the issue. Percy had talked to me about it before and I am supportive of his efforts but we have to take a look at it from a government policy perspective."
Duguid says even though the solution is simple, it is a complicated issue in terms of regulations that liquor is under.
The Canadian Club Centre attracted 15,000 visitors a year.
