Ontario has activated its Disaster Relief Program to help residents in Windsor, Tecumseh and Lakeshore affected by last week's storm.
Minister of Municipal Affairs Bill Mauro toured east Windsor and Tecumseh Monday morning to look at the damage and speak to residents.
The program will allow residents who aren't covered by insurance or who have limited coverage to apply to get some provincial funding to cover emergency costs and essential property.
Mauro stresses it does not replace insurance.
He found some residents still had a positive attitude despite the situation.
"There were a number of people who had smiles on their faces that understood this was a challenge and it was nobody's fault," says Mauro. "There was a real resilience that I found and that was encouraging."
Mauro would not specify how quickly residents would receive funding.
1200 homes in Tecumseh and 1900 homes in east Windsor suffered damaged.
