Concerts for a Cure raised more than 20,000

A social media campaign for Caesars Windsor's Concerts for a Cure has proven successful.

Casino spokesperson Jhoan Balyuot says $20,326 was raised.

She says this year's campaign was done differently.

"Instead of doing one dollar for every ticket sold within October and November, we did a dollar for every interaction on social media," says Balyuot.  "So we really wanted to engage people.  That's where they get their information and look for people to support so we went that way and we had a resounding result."

Balyuot says they're pleased with the amount raised.

"You never know with social media how it will go but we were confident that because we had attached it with five local charities, it would resonates with the people that follow us and also follow those organizations online," says Balyuot.

She says five local charities will share in the funds.

"We've had long term relationships with all of these organizations and have donated, says Balyuot.  "They have been recipients for Concerts for a Cure, that we decided this year we'd like to help them in smaller projects but then also projects that maybe they don't get funding for."

The charities getting a boost are the Windsor-Essex Cancer Centre Foundation, In Honour of the Ones We Love, Transition to Betterness, the local chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society and The Hospice of Windsor-Essex County.
