Provincial police are investigating a homicide in Lakeshore.
Shortly before 10:30 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to an incident at an address on Faleria Street in Belle River.
One person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead by the coroner.
One person is in custody and police say there is no threat to public safety.
In a news release, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stated this is a joint investigation involving the Essex County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with the assistance of the LaSalle Police Service, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Centre of Forensic Sciences.
Members of the OPP Forensic Identification Services are also assisting.
The LaSalle Police Service (LPS) issued a news release of their own Sunday, stating officers were investigating on Orford Street as they assisted the OPP.
LPS said the matter currently being investigated occurred outside of the Town of LaSalle, and "both agencies are working collaboratively."
Speaking to CTV News Windsor, both Lakeshore OPP and LaSalle police confirmed the two investigations in Belle River and LaSalle are connected.

Residents of the areas should expect to see an increased police presence.
Police say the investigation is in its early stages and more information will be released when available.
