The Ontario Hockey League has released a statement following comments that surfaced this week of historical hazing.
In a statement, the league says it is committed to providing a safe environment and creating a positive experience for all players on and off the ice.
In a lengthy social media post on November 24th, Daniel Carcillo detailed how as a 17-year-old rookie on the 2002-2003 Sarnia Sting he was bullied by his teammates.
According to the statement from the OHL, in 2006 the league's anti-hazing policy was enhanced and today all OHL players are educated on this important subject matter annually through their member team.
All players acknowledge to the league in writing on an annual basis, that they understand league policy and are encouraged to bring any concerns forward without fear of reprisal.
In light of the recent attention that has been paid to the issue of hazing, the league also says it has spoken with team management and all of our member teams are providing a refresher to all staff and players about this most important topic.
