A nurse originally from LaSalle is changing lives nearly 1,200 kilometres away.
Laken Tiller now lives and works in Quebec and when she learned she wouldn't be able to attend Tuesday night's Taylor Swift concert at Ford Field in Detroit she decided to donate her two tickets to the Children's Hospital of Michigan.
The hospital picked 15-year-old Tiffany Kleinschmidt who suffered brain damage from a cardiac arrest in April.
Tiller says Kleinschmidt is learning to walk and talk again and has been using Taylor Swift songs as part of her speech therapy.
"From what I understand, she's a huge fan. All of her speech therapy, she's learning to speak again, is singing Taylor Swift songs to be able to put it into her own story and boost her vocabulary. I've made a new friend. So Tiffany will probably be my friend forever now. Same with her mom and her sister and her family and the staff at the hospital who organized all this."
She says when she learned Kleinschmidt's story she bought two more tickets so her mother and sister could attend as well.
"Last week, I donated two more tickets to Tiffany's mom and her sister. I announced it to Tiffany over Facetime. Her mom and her sister were there. So I decided, since it's been about four months since she has stepped foot outside the hospital, it would be fun if they could experience it together as a family."
Tiller says helping people, especially children, has always been her passion.
"I'm a nurse. So I see people who are in the hospital often. It completely consumes your life. Your life is turned upside down, especially when it's a long-term hospitalization, especially a child. So I just wanted Tiffany to be able to spend a night away and her family to spend a night away and forget about what's going on for at least one night."

To cap it all off, Tiller has been able to free up her schedule and will be attending the concert as well one section over from Kleinschmidt.
Tiller says the only thing that could make the whole experience any better would be a meet-and-greet with Swift herself.
"Taylor is known for doing this for her fans and at each show her mom goes around the concert and hand picks people to come meet her after the show. So we're hoping that we're getting enough attention that they go find Tiffany at the show so she can meet Taylor."
The concert goes Tuesday night at 7pm at Ford Field.
