And the winner is....
The 13th annual Windsor-Essex Sports Persons of the Year Awards or WESPY Awards, announced the nominees for the upcoming awards, slated to be handed out March 20th.
34 awards will be handed out including the coach of the year, female athlete of the year, male athlete of the year and team of the year.
Kyle Breitner of St. Clair College Baseball and the Tecumseh Thunder Sr, is nominated for the Baseball Award.
He reached 300 strike outs total for his pitching career. He says the nomination is humbling.
"It is a huge honour," he says. "It is a prestigious award here in Windsor and it is something I look forward to winning."
Karlie Moore is nominated for the Dennis Fairall Track and Field Award and the Female Athlete of the Year. She was the junior girl winner for WECSSA championships and broke the WECSSA record. She's in Track and Field at Sandwich Secondary School and Border City Athletics Club. She credits her team and coaches for the nomination.
"It is something new and it is just an honour to go. Looking forward to a great night with everybody," she says.
The event March 20th will feature Olympic and World Champion Gymnast Nadia Comaneci as the keynote speaker.
