Nominations can be submitted up to this Friday April 26

The nomination period is now open for the 12th annual RNAO Lois Fairley Nursing Award.

The award recognizes a local nurse who has demonstrated a commitment to serving the community through excellence.

It also recognizes an outstanding nurse who makes a differences for patients and their families.

The award is given out by the Windsor-Essex chapter of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.

Spokesperson Crystal Hepburn says it's easy to nominate someone.

"We're really looking at getting some information on the nominee about 500 words or less on the significant impact and how they've gone ahead and played a part into health of yourself or maybe being an advocate or a nursing leader in our system and our community," says Hepburn.

She says all nursing jobs are eligible for nominations.

"It could be nominations from somebody that works in Leamington, if they're a community worker within the Windsor-Essex area, maybe one of the hospital  support staff, public health nursing anybody at all within our region."

Douglas Mercer won the award in 2018, the first male nurse to win the award.

Lois Fairley was a graduate of Grace Hospital in 1955, where she served until her retirement in 1993.

She passed away in July 2007.

Nominations are being accepted until Friday April 26th.

A link to the nomination form can be found on the AM800 website.

The winner will be announced in May.
