Time is running out to run in Windsor's ward 7 byelection next month.
The deadline to submit nomination papers is March 13 at 2 p.m.
Two more candidates have thrown their hats in the ring to run in the byelection.
As of Thursday afternoon, there were 11 candidates vying for the seat to replace Irek Kusmierczyk. He vacated the seat following his win in the 2019 federal election, when he was elected the Liberal M-P for Windsor-Tecumseh.
Angelo Marignani submitted his papers Thursday afternoon because he says he loves the city.
He has run in four previous elections and came in second behind Kusmierczyk during the last municipal election.
Marignani says he learned from previous campaign, that it's better to begin pounding the pavement closer to the election date.
"People aren't thinking about the election right now, they are thinking of viruses and their livelihoods, so to be closer to the date of the election, it will resonate more," he says.
As for the location of the new acute care hospital, he says the city needs to be careful with the environment and urban blight, but Marignani says he supports the decision made today.
"So take it for what it's worth, I'm here for the residents of Windsor first and foremost, if I'm elected, I'm not elected by residents of Tecumseh, Lakeshore and Essex," says Marignani. "So I'm going to do what's best for the residents of Windsor."
The plan is to build a new regional acute care hospital on a section of land along County Road 42 near the 9th Concession, not far from the Windsor Airport.
Local community activity Jeewen Gill has also submitted his papers to run. He has run for the Liberals, provincially and federally. This is his first time running for Windsor city hall saying he has a deep passion and determination to make a difference.
Gill says residents have some big concerns in the ward.
"The biggest concerns are flooding, infrastructure, improvements of roads, there are parks and recreation improvements," he says.
Both Gill and Marignani have lived in the ward for about 20 years.
Albert Saba, Igor Dzaic, Barbara Holland, Ernie Lamont, Greg Lemay, Michael Malott, Howard Weeks, Thérèse Papineau and Farah El-Hajj are also seeking the city council seat.
The byelection is set for April 27.
