A change of plans for this year's Labour Day festivities in Windsor.
Event chairperson Michael Malott says due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no in person celebration or parade happening this year.
He says a virtual celebration will be held instead.
Malott says the organizing committee is working with local unions.
"We reached out to all the local unions to please send us a short video addressing the community and your membership in regards to Labour Day and share with us some pictures of the past," says Malott.
He says Labour Day has a special place in his heart and he's disappointed with the cancellation of the in person events.
"I take a tremendous amount of pride in putting that together," says Malott. "Like the chairperson before me, told me that you'll always hold a special place in your heart for Labour Day and with the amount of work that leads up to it, I never thought that would be true but I take a tremendous amount of pride."
Malott says the organizing committee was working on some new initiatives this year's event.
"Labour Day is not so much a ceremony as the Day of Mourning and other labour initiatives, events like that," says Malott. "Labour Day has always been a family event so not to be able to have that day, it breaks my heart, it really does, it breaks my heart."
Labour Day is Monday, September 7.
Malott says the Labour Day Organizing Committee is working with Your TV and will have more details on the virtual celebration in the coming weeks.
In past years, a parade would kick off Labour Day festivities in Windsor followed by speeches and a family celebration at the Fogolar Furlan Club.
