The province's police watchdog will not be laying any charges against police after it found a man in Chatham-Kent set himself on fire.

Chatham-Kent police were called on June 30 to a home to check on the well-being of a 43-year-old man.

Officers found him in the backyard and tried to talk to him.

The man doused himself in gasoline and set himself on fire.

The director of the province's Special Investigations Unit ruled there were no reasonable grounds to lay charges against any of the officers.

The man suffered third-degree burns.
