There'll be no change in the way Windsor residents vote in the next municipal election.
City council is sticking with the one-candidate system instead of a ranked system that would allow voters to list several candidates in order of preference.
Councillor Chris Holt says, while he's neither for nor against a ranked system, he thinks a citizen task force should have been formed to further explore the idea. "We really do need to build up the knowledge, a wisdom about how we elect our city councillors and our mayor," says Holt. "So by kicking it back to a citizen task force, and have them go through with administration, the professionals who run our elections, and have them go through it and open it up for an education campaign with the citizens of the city."
In the end, council decided it would be too expensive and too confusing.
The estimated additional cost of a ranked system is about $360,000.
