There's a new fitness centre in Windsor aimed at helping at-risk youth.
The Kids First Fitness Centre at 900 Howard Ave. opened its doors to coincide with the Kids First Food Bank.
The Windsor Family Homes and Community Partnerships group runs the food bank and gym.
Executive Director Angela Yakonich says the new gym will enhance the nutrition program at the food bank and gives kids a place to work out without judgement.
Brady's Fitness helped to raise $27,000 to buy new equipment, weights and to renovate the basement of the building into the gym.
Owner of Brady's Fitness Shawn Brady says the gym will help the at-risk youth burn off some steam.
"If you can keep kids active, they stay out of trouble so if you have a kid who stays at home and he is bored, what do they do, they get into mischief."
Brady tells AM800 News the gym is a great place to deal with life's problems.
"If you can have a place for them to go and maybe burn off some steam from maybe being bullied at home or being stressful from their family or life or anything that so they can go somewhere and relieve some of that stress," adds Brady.
Yakonich says this will expose kids to a new environment.
"A lot of the kids that we are targeting will never have access to a fitness facility like this," explains Yakonich. "They have parks and things like that but we are going to teach them how to lift weights, our trainers are going to teach them how to do yoga and high intensity interval training."
The Kids First Food Bank serves over 900 people per week.
