A new Windsor family woke up to a nightmare Thursday morning.
Trevor d'Entremont, a warrant officer with the Windsor Regiment, moved to the city in July with his wife and three-year-old daughter.
With no family and few friends in the city, they were struggling to deal with a flooded basement in their eastside home.
"Being in the military, we're trained for so many things, but this is something they don't train for," d'Entremont say. "I think at the end of the day when I realized my basement was going under, I needed to save my valuables, but the most heartbreaking situation of the whole thing was seeing my daughter's toys floating around in the basement."
He says the experience has been upsetting, but they reached out to people through social media and the support has been overwhelming.
"The outpouring of support from complete strangers has been very heartwarming," d'Entremont says. "It's kind of ironic moving to an area where we don't know many people, we expect to make some life-long friends from this event. So like they say, there's a light at the end of a tunnel, well that might be it."

d'Entremont says water reached about four-feet in the basement, destroying a couch, furniture, their daughter's playroom and more.
He says insurance won't cover close to half of the damage and lose of items.
A video of their flooded basement has more than 1,000 views.
Friends from their former residence in Petawawa created a Go Fund Me page to help support the family.
