The new President-elect for the University of Windsor Students' Alliance is looking forward to the opportunity.
As heard on AM800 News, Jeremiah Bowers recently defeated RJ "Soul-Train" Sivanesan in a byelection.
Bowers feels he's the right person for the job and believes it's time to re-build broken bridges within the UWSA and on campus.
He says the UWSA has a difficult time recently and he wants to move forward and steer the alliance in the right direction.
"Knowing how things at the UWSA are going, I just felt that I had the knowledge, the experience and the ability to steer us in the right direction. I know the different perceptions UWSA has and I really wanted to give it a positive perception going forward and fix a lot of the things that have been broken."
Bowers says he wants the UWSA to connect more with the student body.
"By that I mean rebuilding our broken bridges and ensuring that every student knows about the UWSA which is a task in itself because throughout the campaign, I learned that a lot of people don't know what the UWSA is right and when you're representing 11,000 full time under graduate students, it's critical and who pay for the UWSA to function, it's critical that they know what their money is going towards."
He thinks it's time to showcase the University of Windsor.
"This term I really also want to focus on putting Windsor on the map so working with our different societies that are putting on who are putting on different conferences for example Odette is doing a huge conference that's coming up and I really want to show support to them just as an example. These are the different things about UWindsor that make us great and extraordinary and we need to showcase that more.)
The UWSA's Board of Directors will ratify the byelection results this week.
Once ratified, Bowers will officially take office, and his term will run until April 30th, 2018.
