The Town of Tecumseh could soon be home to a new multi-use sportsplex.
Tuesday night, council approved moving forward with plans for the $22-million to $24-million facility.
Administration has been given the go ahead to pursue available government grants and fundraising opportunities to help pay for the project.
The town is looking at three financing options which include 100%, 50% and 33% grant contributions.
Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara says he's confident the town can land some major funding from both levels of government.
"If you look at the both of their budgets, it was very clear that added in the mix with infrastructure, recreation and cultural centres are also a main focus. It's not just about sewers and water mains, also recreation is going to play a major role."
He says they'll be looking to community partners for help as well.
"The next stage is that the fundraising committee is going to play an essential role in this and I think the timing is very good because the economy is doing extremely well. So we're going to be extremely aggressive in that aspect."
McNamara says the push for funding starts right away.
"In the next, very short little time, we're going to Toronto, we're going to Ottawa, we're going to be knocking on some doors. Once those pieces are there, obviously, the project is going to move quite quickly after that."
The various financing options result in possible tax increases of 4.05%, 4.96% or 7.67%.
If all goes as planned, construction on the new facility, located next to Tecumseh Arena, could begin in 12 to 16 months.
