Smoking restrictions could soon be in place in Amherstburg.
A new smoking control bylaw bans lighting up in town parks, playgrounds, recreational fields and along trails.
It'll also be illegal to smoke within 9 meters of a public entrance to municipal buildings.
Deputy Mayor Bart DiPasqule believes it'll lead to a healthier community. "The bylaw is going to be a little more strict and cover some more areas that weren't covered before. It's a good thing in my view. It causes people to possibly be healthier without all the smoke floating around in public places."
Town administration worked with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit in drafting the bylaw.
The health unit says they need to reduce child and youth exposure to smoking in the areas in which they engage in healthy recreational activities.
The bylaw is expected to receive final approval December 12th.
