Smoking is on the agenda tonight in Amherstburg.
Town council debates a proposed bylaw that would make it illegal to light up in town parks, playgrounds, recreational fields and on trails.
Mayor Aldo DiCarlo thinks it'll be approved. "I think the biggest concern is the youth and keeping the smoke away from them. What people do in their own private residents and their private property, that's OK, they can do whatever they like. But on public property, smoking is just not something you do anymore especially around kids."
The bylaw would also ban smoking within 9 meters of the entrance to municipal buildings.
Amherstburg is the only local municipality without a smoking-control bylaw in place.
