A new clinic has opened in west Windsor to help people with learning disabilities, a brain injury, attention deficit disorder or a stroke.
The new Neuropsychology services clinic is housed in the 'House on Riverside' at 2629 Riverside Dr. West, property owned by the University of Windsor.
It will provide assessments to people from pre-schoolers to the elderly.
The services are provided by graduate students under the supervision of faculty member neuropsychologists.
"We have for years and years relied on local practicum training sites for our students, a number of those are in the United States," says Carlin Miller, clinic supervisor. "With the changes at the border, it has been very problematic for getting our students placed."
She says the cost is based on family income which will help people with a lower income. "For individuals who are not people of means, it may be difficult for them to find the funds to pay for a private assessment, OHIP doesn't cover these services, private insurance does cover in some cases."

Another advantage to the clinic, according to Miller, is the lack of a waiting list although she does expect that to change.
Miller says the clinic is open to everyone and patients can refer themselves or physicians can make referrals as well.
After the assessment, the clinic can help direct patients to proper treatment or care.
In the first year, the clinic is hoping to help 25-30 people.
