A new change for the Salvation Army building in downtown Windsor.
The building on Church Street will no longer be referred to as the Windsor Community and Rehabilitation Centre.
Instead it will now be called The Salvation Army Windsor Centre of Hope.
Major Paul Rideout says changing the name has been in the works for the last couple of years, and the new name reflects on the Sally Ann's commitment to the community.
"Over the last couple of years we've worked hard to kind of change the mind set and the approach we take to ministry," says Rideout. "We're looking at not just celebrating the number of people that we celebrate but we're really giving some re-enforced attention to the approach that we take to helping others."
Rideout tells AM800 News the new name aligns with the Salvation Army's Canadian tag line of "Giving Hope Today."
"When people come to us regardless of the service that it is that we provide, our intent is that we would give hope in every transaction that we do," says Rideout.
Rideout adds it was time for a name change.
"I think the Windsor Community and Rehabilitation Centre has certainly been a useful name but it was certainly more relevant when we had a residential rehabilitation program there but as we work with people now we're looking at models of recovery and that kind of thing," says Rideout.
The Salvation Army has been serving Windsor since 1886.
It provides basic needs to low income individuals and those experiencing homelessness, while also providing a community meal four times a week.
