A new Miss Tecumseh has been crowned at the 42nd annual Corn Festival.
Melissa Montaleone became the the 39th winner in the pageants 40 years.
Several hundred people gathered for what's billed as the oldest and most inviting eventĀ of the festival at Bert Lacasse Park Thursday.
Montaleone told AM800 News the reality of winning the pageant hasn't quite sunk in yet.
"I was shocked, honestly it didn't feel real, it was, I can't even describe the feeling. Is this real life, is this a dream? It's amazing and it's such an honour too."
She says there's so much more to beauty pageants than people think. "You really have to be able to think on your feet." Says Monaleone, "There's also the whole charity involvement, and that's very time consuming because you have to be able to give up your time for a good cause, which I am happy to do and it is an honour."
Montaleone chose to donate her time to Transition to Betterness.
"Children for example, will look outside their window, instead of seeing a rooftop they'll see a safari scene. They go around with a cart and bring food to families and friends. They change the rooms for the patients, to make it feel more like home, it's a great cause because it is so impactful on the patients and the families."
Montaleone takes over pageant duties from last years winner, Maria Giorlando.
