LaSalle may have found a new home for Prince Andrew Public School.
Lasalle Mayor Ken Antaya told AM800 News the current site of Prince Andrew School on Malden Rd. had become a challenge and a new location for better traffic flow and possible expansion was needed. If approved, the new school will be erected near the Vollmer Complex and Sandwich Secondary School on Judy Recker Dr. south of Laurier Dr.
The only obstacle is the 13-acre-property is needs to be rezoned for institutional use, something Councillor Jeff Renaud doesn't see his fellow councillors standing in the way of.
"I'm excited to see that it's going to be put in a great location," he says. "It's going to be nestled in with the Vollmer Complex, with the Robert Carrick Complex, Sandwich Secondary."
Renaud says the key feature of the new location will be how easily all the facilities can collaborate.
"A lot of resources can be shared, whether it’s teaching resources, or sports resources, or healthy active living," says Renaud. "These are all things that are going to be in this area."
People always want to see visual plans, but with firm deadlines in place Renaud says selecting the land is a major-obstacle they should check off the list Tuesday night.
"It's my understanding that they'll be out at the library at some point," he says. "People will be able to see the plans for the school, what the road infrastructure and things will look like. As for right now, our job is to make sure that we get the zoning changed over for them."
Council will also be asked to approve plans for a new 2,900 sq. ft. Harvey's and Swiss Chalet at Malden Towne Plaza on the corner of Malden Rd. and Delmar St.
